Titan 1918 hand made scissors are made in Taiwan and not in Japan using age old Japanese forging, tempering, honing, sharpening and two piece welding techniques. Cheaper made scissors by other manufacturers make the template out of a single cast.
The term 'Japanese made' can be misleading as it implies that the scissors steel material is made in Japan and not necessarily means that the hair scissors were made in Japan. Authentic Japanese made scissors are expensive due to the quality of alloys they use in making them. Labour costs in Japan are very high and the number of steps required in making the scissors are often high, as much as 200 steps required. Hence, this is reflected in the cost of a truly Japanese made scissors.
Hair Scissors made in Taiwan are made at the fraction of the cost of a scissors made in Japan, whilst still retaining decent quality.
